Top Ten Tuesday: School Freebie

Today’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday is School Freebie – In honor of school starting up soon, come up with a topic that somehow ties to school/education. This one got me to thinking I decided to go with books I think should be required reading.

#1. The Princess Bride by William Goldman – while many have seen the movie from the movie from the 80s, not many know the movie was made after an actual book despite the fact that the grandfather is reading it to the grandson. The book is different from the movie in many ways and was a very fun read. I think it would make a good required reading book as it is a classic in my opinion.

#2. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis – while this might not fit for many as it is a Christian center book, this book is complete satire but gives a good account of what it is like to be tempted and to overcome the temptation.

#3 The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas – while this book is challenged at times due to its content, language, and drug use, it is a powerful book about racism.

#4 Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell – there is language in this book that might not sit well with some but I know for a fact the kids say worse than what they will read. This is a coming of age romance that hits topics such as poverty, bullying, race, and abuse.

#5 The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho – This parable about following your dreams no matter what obstacles get in your way will get your brain churning.

#6 The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky -another coming of age story that gives a quirky, yet honest look at growing up.

#7 The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery – While technically for children, this gorgeous and philosophical little book has plenty of lessons for adults too.

#8 Atomic Habits by James Clear – I am about to read this book again. It is a great book for stopping old and starting new habits and keeping with them.

#9 The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende – The story details the life of the Trueba family, spanning four generations, and tracing the post-colonial social and political upheavals of Chile.

#10 Intentional by David Amerland – A fascinating resource that empowers you to live life intentionally. It brings together all those pieces of our brain that can hold us back so that we can understand motivation, direct our actions, and live life with meaning.
